Graffiti is a popular art form in Madrid - popular with the spray painters that is. The local councils don't like it all and spend a lot of time (and money) scrubbing it off. Some shopkeepers have come to some sort of informal agreement with the sprayers by paying them to a job on their shop shutters (see pictures) which is better than just having your business premises tagged randomly and makes for colourful streets.
